The Chairman of the main European parliamentary Group (EPP Group), Joseph Daul MEP, has asked the President-in-Office of the Council of the European Union, Viktor Orbán, to forward the SCHE-VAL Report to the European Parliament on the state of the preparation of Romania and Bulgaria for the Schengen area.

On the situation in Tunisia and Egypt

Bruxelles, 2/02/11

"European authorities seem to have learned from Tunisia and were quicker to condemn violence in Egypt" said Marie Christine Vergiat MEP (France). "Let us beware of interference and be firm on all violations of human rights. The EU has lost a lot of credibility in many countries in the region. It must be humble while being attentive to the needs of real people.

Energy Summit - old thinking slays prospects for change

GUE/NGL MEPs criticised the EU's energy strategy priorities ahead of the European Council meeting this Friday, which will focus on energy and innovation.

"Energy is clearly vital for creating new jobs but governments continue to insist on outdated energy policies" Portuguese MEP Marisa Matias objected. "We need an energy revolution, not more public-private partnerships. Attachment to "old energy" and a lack of ambition in terms of "new energy" means this is unfortunately a Council of continuity, when it could be a first step toward real change."

Egypt, the Euro, Energy: ''The solution is more Europe''. Joseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament

"What will the public remember from the European Council this Friday in Brussels? "For the EPP Group, the solution to all these problems is not less, but more Europe."

On Egypt, the Chairman of the main European parliamentary Group said that he hopes Europe speaks loudly and clearly and that it plays its role in the region by "assisting the transition and establishing democratic and open elections."

Waiting for recognition - the forgotten Roma genocide

"Only when the EU and its member states finally recognize the Roma genocide as a crime against humanity will the majority rethink its attitude. We also need binding measures for the fight against Anti-Romanyism in the member states and the prosecution of acts of violence and hate campaigns against Roma and Sinti" GUE/NGL MEP Cornelia Ernst said in today's debate on EU recognition of the Roma genocide during World War II.
