Zug, Switzerland, February 2021 – Euralarm congratulates the Portuguese EU Council Presidency and fully supports the Presidency's objectives of supporting the European Single Market and leading the European Union towards a more resilient, global, greener, fair and more digital society. Since 1970, the association has worked hard to contribute to the European ideals by representing the interests of the fire safety and security industry in the areas of standardisation development and legislation.

A new economic category for abundant goods — anti-rival goods that increase in value when shared — forms the basis of research to be conducted by ATARCA consortium. ATARCA aims to create a new economic system in which digital goods are no longer traded with mediums of exchange, such as fiat money, but with mediums of sharing.

ESWET: Including Waste-to-Energy in the EU ETS won’t help sustainable waste management

Brussels, 11 February 2021. ESWET welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the EU Emissions Trading System’s revision (EU ETS). The waste management sector bears an essential role in the EU’s ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Waste-to-Energy contributes by treating the fraction of municipal waste unfit for recycling, as a part of the Effort Sharing Regulation.

S&Ds: Stop the massacres in Yemen. Shameful responsibilities of Saudi Arabia and Arab Emirates cannot be glossed over

Following the approval of the resolution on the humanitarian and political situation in Yemen by the European Parliament today, the Socialists and Democrats reiterate the call on the EU and the international community to take concrete measures to immediately stop the conflict and the human rights violations.

S&D rapporteur, Marc Tarabella MEP, said:

EUCOLIGHT members reach two billion recycled lamps across Europe

  • This global milestone in the history of recycling has been possible thanks to the coordinated effort and work of each of the organisations that operate in each country and that make up EucoLight
  • EucoLight members have collected a total of more than 250,000 tonnes of lamps for recycling, an equivalent of two billion units

S&D e-Privacy negotiator: Negotiations must start ASAP

The European Parliament’s negotiator on the e-Privacy regulation, Birgit Sippel MEP, has called for trilogue talks between the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission to start as soon as possible, after years of member states blocking progress. E-Privacy rules will give citizens control over how their confidential information can be used or shared online.

Birgit Sippel, negotiator on the e-Privacy regulation, said:

MiFID: S&Ds reject conservatives’ deregulation push masquerading as Covid-19 crisis measure

The Socialists and Democrats are leading the drive to reject the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) Quick Fix in tomorrow’s vote in the European Parliament’s full plenary.

Eero Heinäluoma MEP, S&D negotiator on the MiFID Quick Fix, said:

From products’ end-of-life to sustainable production. Circular Economy to boost social and economic recovery post-Covid

In the previous Action Plan, the EU Commission had mainly focused on products’ end-of-life, setting ambitious targets for recycling; today’s report on the Circular Economy Action Plan goes beyond that and aims at setting sustainable and eco-friendly standards to the projecting and production of products.
