#Greensource was created in 2020 as a European-wide effort to explain how the forest-fibre industries can make the 2050 climate neutrality target a reality. Cepi, the Confederation of European Paper Industries, and EPIS, the European Pulp Industry Sector Association, kickstarted the initiative.
Latest market research from the World Employment Confederation (WEC) and the Association of Career Firms international (ACF) shows that the career management industry anticipates further waves of restructuring for 2021 and therefore expects the provision of career transition services to grow by up to 10% globally. The sector warns about the need to watch out for the quality of services in order to guarantee successful and sustainable transitions for workers.
The European Parliament will today give its final green light to Europe’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), a crucial tool worth the €672.5 billion to boost the European economy following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Eider Gardiazabal MEP, S&D negotiator for the European Parliament, said:
Speaking ahead of a plenary debate with European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde on the European Parliament’s annual report 2020, the Socialists and Democrats Group highlighted the need for the ECB to continue its active monetary policies to speed up the recovery and urged the ECB to step up its sustainability efforts. The S&D Group is leading the drive for a formal inter-institutional agreement between the ECB and Parliament that would ensure greater democratic accountability as the powers of the ECB increase.
Speaking ahead of a debate on ‘Reducing inequalities with a specific focus on in-work poverty’, the S&D Group calls for fair minimum wages, action to better protect platform workers and a social progress protocol.
Marianne Vind, S&D MEP responsible for in-work poverty, said:
The Socialists and Democrats are leading the European Parliament’s efforts to call for more to be done to fight human trafficking, a horrific crime that affects women and children in particular. Victims of human trafficking, especially when subject to sexual exploitation, are often highly vulnerable people that require significant levels of support.
A ban on the use of expressions such as ‘alternative to yoghurt’ or terms such as ‘creamy’ to describe plant-based alternatives to dairy – also known as ‘Amendment 171’ – will be discussed by the Council, the European Parliament and the Commission in March. Amendment 171 would make it more difficult for consumers to make informed dietary choices based on their needs, and is inconsistent with the EU’s climate ambitions and commitments.
One of the many impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a notable exacerbation of gender inequality. Women have suffered disproportionally in the labour market, unpaid and informal economies and for women in other marginalised communities, the impacts have been substantially worse. The economic recovery packages that follow the pandemic must account for these gendered consequences and help redress the disparities that are still widening.
