EU braucht endlich klare Regeln bei der Entsendung

VDMA: Flickenteppich in Europa verursacht hohen bürokratischen Aufwand in den Unternehmen

S&Ds: 10 % less European investments through cohesion policy is a cut on taxpayer’s own finger

The legislative proposals for the future European Cohesion Policy 2021- 2027 pave the way for a more simple, innovative and secure investment programme for all the regions in Europe. However, the S&D Group is strongly concerned about the tough reductions for investments and deeply disappointed to see again the macroeconomic conditionality in the Commission’s proposal. Following today’s legislative proposal presentation, Constanze Krehl, S&D’s coordinator in the committee for regional development (REGI) in the European Parliament, stated:

The S&D Group backs the continuity of the peace process started by Santos in Colombia

Following the first round of the presidential elections in Colombia, and ahead of the official visit of the departing president Juan Manuel Santos to the European Parliament, the S&D Group underlines that the South American country is living a historic moment and it thanks president Santos for his efforts to bring about peace.

Ramón Jáuregui MEP, who co-chairs the EU-Latin America Parliamentary Assembly (Eurolat) said:

Well intended, not legally sound, practically unworkable

In a surprise move last Thursday, it was announced that the European Parliament would vote today on the Revision of the Posting of Workers Directive.

S&Ds score victory for European workers: Equal pay for equal work at the same place to become reality

oday, the European Parliament endorsed new rules for posted workers that will create fair conditions and fair competition for European workers and companies. The Socialists and Democrats had led the campaign to close loopholes in the outdated legal framework for workers temporarily providing a service in another EU country, and succeeded in considerably improving the Commission proposal.

Udo Bullmann, leader of the S&D Group, said:

Young farmers are key in the future Common Agriculture Policy, say S&Ds

Young farmers represent a great potential for the agriculture sector, as they are keener to innovate and diversify. Hence, the new Common Agriculture Policy must embody a strong and concrete policy to support their development across Europe. In the EU, only 6% of farmers are under 35 years old, whilst more than half of the total is already over 55. We desperately need a generation turnover.

S&Ds tighten vetting of foreign take-overs to protect security and jobs

This evening, the international trade committee in the European Parliament approved new rules on the screening of direct foreign investment. Acting on mounting concerns about foreign investors, notably state-owned enterprises, taking over European companies with key technologies for strategic reasons, in February 2017 Socialist and Social Democrat ministers launched an initiative to set up a European mechanism to protect critical European assets against investments that could be detrimental to legitimate interests of the EU or its member states.

S&Ds want to introduce specific targets for single-use plastic reduction

The EU is at the forefront of the global fight against plastic litter, but unfortunately, it is also one of the main responsible actors: Europe produced 52 million tonnes, the equivalent of 23% of the world’s plastics, in 2015 and a lot of it just ended up in the oceans. Bottles, bags and straws endanger not only marine life but also human health.
