Parliament backs strong EU budget for 2019 – reinforcing solidarity and preparing for a sustainable future

The European Parliament today adopted its draft guidelines for the 2019 EU budget. The European Commission will present its draft budget for 2019 at the end of May and then negotiations will begin between the Council and Parliament before a final budget is adopted before the end of the year.

President Duterte of the Philippines must be held accountable

The S&D Group strongly criticises the decision made by president Rodrigo Duterte to pull the Philippines out of the international criminal court (ICC). There is no doubt that this decision - made after the ICC opened an investigation into Duterte’s brutal war on drugs - does nothing but confirm his fear of being held to account.

Elena Valenciano, S&D vice-president responsible for foreign affairs and human rights, said:

COCIR further enhances its ethical standards on industry relationships with healthcare professionals

BRUSSELS – 15 March 2018: COCIR is enhancing its existing code of conduct on relationships with healthcare professionals. The amended Code will be effective as of 1 January 2019 to allow all stakeholders time to implement the changes to the Code.

The European Union failed to use its leverage over Ankara

The S&D Group is disappointed by the conclusions of the European Court of Auditors report on Turkey published today, which states that EU funding to Turkey had barely addressed fundamental requirements in the rule of law and governance sectors.  As a result, the EU failed to use its leverage in Ankara.

Commenting on the report S&D MEP Kati Piri, the European Parliament rapporteur on Turkey, said:

Access to in-vehicle data recognised as essential by European Parliament

Brussels, 14 March 2018 – The European Parliament overwhelmingly supported the adoption of the Own Initiative Report by Mr Ujhelyi on Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems.

ETRMA would like to add its voice to that of the 633 MEPs that supported the request for the European Commission to publish a legislative initiative to guarantee fair, unrestricted and in real time access to in-vehicle data, before the end of the year.

As a part of the Social Fairness Package, the European Commission adopted yesterday their legislative proposal for setting up the European Labour Authority (ELA). Following the presentation, CEEP General Secretary Valeria Ronzitti commented:

PES glad that fair EU budget is gaining momentum, calls for Commission to speed process up

The Party of European Socialists supports today's decision of the European finance ministers to make intermediaries -- tax advisors, accountants and lawyers -- legally accountable for cases of tax fraud or tax dodging.
