Pittella: Kenya is a crucial country for Africa. Rule of law and peaceful electoral process must prevail

Following the unprecedented decision for Africa of the Kenyan Supreme Court to annul the outcome of the last presidential election, the leader of the S&D Group, Gianni Pittella, with S&D Group members Tanja Fajon and Julie Ward, who took part in the European Parliament election observation mission, stated:

Pittella: Stalemate doesn´t come as a surprise. UK is still far from being open and keen to discuss seriously over Brexit

After the third round of formal Brexit talks, the S&D Group president, Gianni Pittella, stated:

“The lack of decisive progress on any of the principal subjects in the third round of negotiations doesn't come as a surprise. Beyond the goodwill expressed on paper, the UK Government is far from being open and keen to have a serious discussion on the crucial points linked to the British withdrawal from the EU: citizens' rights, financial settlement and the Irish border.

Pittella: Rule of law should not serve political interests. Polish government must finally get serious and engage in a real dialogue with EU Commission

Following an exchange of views today with EU Commission first vice-president Frans Timmermans in the European Parliament civil liberties committee on respect of the rule of law in Poland, S&D Group leader Gianni Pittella stated:

"The rule of law should not serve a political interest. Yet the Polish government continues to openly infringe upon this crucial democratic principle for their own political interests; sliding Poland out of the EU's legal framework.
