Europe to raise the bar on human right to safe drinking water and sanitation. Private Water Operators contribute to making this right a reality for all.

All individuals need clean water every day. Their basic needs for water are now recognised in the human right that was passed into international law in 2010. This right has precise requirements for states, including the EU. It means that everybody should enjoy access to a minimum quantity of clean water. It also means that this water should be safe, accessible, acceptable, affordable and can be obtained without discrimination.

Reaching 2 million new jobs: Cities become the new ally of the Renovate Europe Campaign

A deep renovation of the EU building stock could provide an answer to Europe’s economic woes by triggering the creation of up to 2 million jobs! This is one of the numerous considerations - along with cost savings and energy security - that has led to the recent involvement of local authorities in the Renovate Europe Campaign (REC).

Indeed, Energy Cities, the European association of local authorities engaged in the energy transition, is now representing the voice of cities in this ever-growing Europe-wide movement.

Wind Directions, September 2013: Turkey - the powerhouse bridging east and west

Situated on the brink of Europe and the edge of Asia, Turkey has taken advantage of its strategic position while managing to avoid both the slump to its west and the strife to its east.

But its booming economy has led to an electricity demand that is growing at a rate second only to China's, and the country is currently importing 75% of its energy at a cost of € 60 billion per year.

Turkey is looking to wind energy to cut its import dependence, create employment and help its economy to keep expanding.

Interviews:

EU must defend its Eastern neighbours. Jacek Saryusz-Wolski MEP

"Recent pressures exercised by Russia and the consequences they had on the EU Eastern neighbourhood, i.e. Armenia’s announcement to join the Customs Union, Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili’s statement to consider such an option, the trade war with the Ukraine and numerous threats towards Moldova, are a blatant attempt to put the whole Eastern Partnership project into question.
