A majority of MEPs on the Parliament's International Trade Committee have today voted in favour of both less stringent rules on health warnings and tobacco packaging and for menthol to remain an additive in cigarettes. Call for urgent action to save eels teetering on the brink

With the European eel stock in a precarious state across Europe, the European Parliament's fisheries committee today voted on legislative proposals on management of eel fisheries. The EU urgently needs to adopt a new recovery plan to give eel stocks a chance and there is also a need for a more sustainable approach to re-stocking. Green rapporteur/draftsperson Isabella Lövin is calling for a new EU regulation to reflect this and after the vote she said:

MIF regulation would benefit businesses and consumers across the EU

The European Commission is expected to publish proposals concerning the fees charged on payments using electronic cards. The card scheme MasterCard has been pursuing an aggressive media campaign against such regulation. EuroCommerce calls on the European Commission not to be pressurized: all European businesses and consumers need and deserve strong regulation against these fees.

New Publication: Report Presents Recommendations for Better Working Opportunities for Older Workers

As Europe's population is ageing and its workforce continuously shrinking, innovative solutions have to be found in order to secure Europe's growth and innovation levels for the future. At the same time, people are living longer and are healthier and fitter, which allows them to participate in society and the labor market far beyond their 60s. Nevertheless, the path towards more labor market integration is still a rocky one for many older workers across Europe.
